This Privacy Policy (the “Policy”) describes how LawyerGuide.com (“Company,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, discloses, retains, and otherwise processes personal information in connection with the operation of our online legal directory located at https://lawyerguide.com (the “Site”). By accessing or using the Site, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Policy. If you do not agree to the terms of this Policy, you should discontinue use of the Site.

This Policy is updated at least annually in accordance with applicable law. The “Last Updated” date at the top of this document reflects the most recent revision.

Information We Collect

We collect personal information in the following categories, depending on how you interact with the Site:

2.1 Information Provided Directly by You

Visitor Inquiries
When you submit an inquiry directed to a listed attorney, we collect your name, email address, phone number, zip code or location, and the content of your inquiry, which may include a free-text description of your legal matter or a structured selection of practice area or case type.

Account Registration
If you create a user account, we collect your name, email address, username, and password (stored in hashed form).

Attorney Listings
Attorneys and legal professionals who create or maintain listings on the Site provide professional information including name, firm name, bar number, practice areas, office address, phone number, email address, and biographical content. Depending on subscription plan, this information may be submitted directly by the attorney or entered by our administrative staff on their behalf.

Payment Information
Attorneys who subscribe to paid listing plans submit payment information. Payment processing is handled by a third-party processor (currently Stripe, Inc. or PayPal, Inc.). We do not collect, store, or have access to raw payment card numbers, bank account numbers, or similar financial account data. Our payment processor’s privacy policy governs the handling of that information.

Comments
If you leave a comment on the Site, we collect your name, email address, and the content of your comment, as well as your IP address and browser user agent string for spam detection purposes.

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

When you visit the Site, we and our third-party service providers automatically collect certain technical and usage information, including:

  • IP address and approximate geographic location derived therefrom
  • Browser type, version, and operating system
  • Device type and identifiers
  • Pages viewed, time spent on pages, links clicked, and referring URL
  • Cookie identifiers and similar tracking technologies (see Section 5)

2.3 Sensitive Personal Information

Inquiry submissions may include descriptions of legal matters that constitute sensitive personal information, including information relating to health conditions, family law matters, financial circumstances, immigration status, criminal history, or other sensitive categories. We collect this information solely for the purpose of facilitating your connection with legal counsel and do not use it for any other purpose, including advertising or profiling.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the personal information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To display your inquiry to the attorney or marketing partner to whom it is directed, and to facilitate your connection with legal counsel
  • To create and maintain user and attorney accounts
  • To process attorney subscription payments and manage billing records
  • To operate, maintain, and improve the Site and its features

4. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information for monetary consideration. We disclose personal information as described below:

4.1 With Listed Attorneys

When you submit an inquiry directed to a specific attorney, the content of that inquiry, including your name, contact information, location, and legal matter description, is stored on our systems and made accessible to that attorney through their authenticated account portal. Attorneys access this information solely for the purpose of responding to your inquiry.

4.2 With Marketing Partners

When you submit an inquiry through the Site, depending on the type of legal matter and your location, we may share your name, contact information, and inquiry details with one or more third-party marketing partners who match consumers with attorneys or evaluate potential legal claims. These partners may contact you directly, by phone, text, or email, regarding your inquiry. A current list of our marketing partners and the types of legal matters each handles is available on our Marketing Partners page. By submitting an inquiry, you consent to being contacted by the partner(s) matched to your request, as described on that page and in the consent language presented at the time of submission.

Advertising and measurement providers (Meta Platforms, Inc., operating Meta Pixel) — browsing behavior and device identifiers for advertising measurement and audience analysis
Payment processors (Stripe, Inc.) — billing and transaction data for attorney subscriptions
Spam detection services — comment content, IP addresses, and browser user agent strings

Each such provider is engaged pursuant to a written data processing agreement or equivalent contractual terms governing their use of personal data.

4.4 Advertising and "Sharing" Under State Privacy Laws

Our use of Meta Pixel results in the disclosure of certain browsing behavior and device identifiers to Meta Platforms, Inc. for advertising measurement and audience purposes. Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and similar state laws, this activity may constitute “sharing” of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising purposes, even absent monetary consideration. You have the right to opt out of this sharing as described in Section 7.

4.5 Legal and Safety Disclosures

We may disclose personal information if we believe in good faith that such disclosure is necessary to: (a) comply with applicable law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request; (b) enforce our Terms of Service; (c) detect, prevent, or address fraud, security, or technical issues; or (d) protect the rights, property, or safety of the Company, our users, or the public.

4.6 Business Transfers

In the event of a merger, acquisition, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of all or a portion of our assets, personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify users via a prominent notice on the Site or by email prior to any such transfer becoming subject to a materially different privacy policy.

This activity constitutes “sharing” under California law. You may opt out as described in Section 7 of this Policy, or through Meta’s Ad Preferences settings at https://www.facebook.com/ads/preferences.
