Tom is a former federal prosecutor who represents groups and people in government investigations, False Claims Act litigation, complex civil litigation, and white collar criminal protection.
Before founding Griffin Durham Tanner and Clarkson, Tom led a nationally recognized Department of Justice unit answerable for prosecuting complex civil and criminal fraud out of the Southern District of Georgia. In addition to his supervisory duties, he led a number of the workplace’s most complex and considerable criminal instances in the office. During his tenure with the Department of Justice, he tried cases concerning public corruption, fitness care fraud, pill generators, cord/mail fraud, and violent crime — all ensuing in responsible verdicts. Tom has also led investigations resulting in numerous plea agreements related to numerous forms of fraud related to over $1.5 billion greenbacks, which includes prosecutions of physicians, nurses, pharmacists, entrepreneurs, and bosses. In FY 2019, he led his unit to turn out to be the 0.33 most efficient criminal health care fraud unit within the complete Department of Justice. Tom also prosecuted a number of the primary COVID-19 fraud instances within the district, inclusive of instances related to the Small Business Administration (“SBA”) Paycheck Protection Program and Economic Injury Disaster Loans.
