Julie graduated from Spalding University in 1982 with a degree in Business Administration with a minor in mathematics. She received her regulation diploma from the University of Louisville in 1985. She spent her remaining semester of regulation college at Hastings University in San Francisco where she interned for the Department of Corporations. She became a member of the California Bar Association in 1985 and the Kentucky Bar Association in 1987.
From 1987 to 1993, Julie changed into employed as a Staff Lawyer for the Honorable J. Wendell Roberts, US Bankruptcy Judge for the Western District of Kentucky.
