Mr. Dempsey served with the Office of Immigration Litigation on the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. for over a decade. He retired in March 2018 because the Chief of the National Security and Affirmative Litigation Unit inside his Section, where he supervised a team of legal professionals undertaking countrywide protection and immigration-associated, affirmative and protective litigation in district courts and courts of enchantment throughout the kingdom. Mr. Dempsey supervised all country wide protection litigation of an office with over 75 legal professionals, frequently educated Department lawyers in Washington, D.C. and the National Advocacy Center, and advised organisation lawyers and law enforcement officials at venues throughout the U.S. Prior to his work at the Justice Department, Mr. Dempsey served on active responsibility with the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General s Corps then remained lively trying criminal cases within the Army Reserves.
Mr. Dempsey has significant litigation experience. He has attempted seventeen jury instances, over fifty bench trials, and handled dozens of appeals. Mr. Dempsey has worked a wide range of cases, from legal and capital criminal matters to civil suits below the Immigration and Nationality Act -- together with naturalization, adjustment of repute, visa and passport topics, immigration detention, programmatic challenges, and denaturalization instances -- as well as moves beneath the Administrative Procedure Act, Federal Tort Claims Act, and Bivens instances. Mr. Dempsey has also dealt with dozens of habeas petitions and country-extensive elegance movements.
Mr. Dempsey volunteers supporting disabled and homeless Veterans in need thru several neighborhood, countrywide, and international non-income agencies.
