Today we have an interview with one of Phoenix’s most tenacious bankruptcy attorneys, Jacob Goodman of Rock Law Bankruptcy Attorneys in Phoenix, Arizona.
Will you please tell us about why you decided to become an attorney?
Yeah, well that is not a very exciting story. I pretty much was not in love with science or math and I was pretty good at speaking and writing and things like that of that nature.
So I figured being a lawyer was the way to go about it.
What made you decide to focus on bankruptcy?
That was through a long period of trial and error working in other fields and just not finding the satisfaction that I was hoping for in my professional choice. What I figured out through those other experiences is that I like helping people. I like the satisfaction of working closely with clients, helping them through a problem. I also like that bankruptcy is by and large a repetitive process so I can get really good at it. It’s very much the same, you know, set of rules that we’re working with and applying those to different facts. So it’s easy to get good at it. And then once you’re good at it, your professional life is just a little bit easier.
What does your firm, the Rock Law Bankruptcy Attorneys stand for?
What I think what we’ve been successful in doing is creating a culture where we really try to help the client have a positive experience in bankruptcy. It’s already kind of a (it can be) viewed as a negative thing. It’s already a stressful thing. We try to make it a positive experience and we do that by really advocating for our clients, helping them jump in and helping them with problems quickly. Making them feel like we’ve got their back and we hear all the time from people that that’s what they appreciate about us is just feeling supported through this process.
If you had to give one piece of advice to people that are looking for a bankruptcy attorney in Phoenix, Arizona, what would that be?
Don’t go with the biggest name out there. The people that have the biggest ad budgets necessarily don’t have the best interest of the clients in mind. They also don’t have the best service. So really pay attention to Google reviews. That’s what I would do.
What would you say is one of the biggest challenges that keep people from hiring a bankruptcy attorney and how can they overcome those challenges?
It’s probably, most people who are looking to file bankruptcy don’t have the money to do it.
Which is why we offer a zero down bankruptcy for that very purpose. So that’s, that’s probably what you’d have to go with, It’s something that allows you to get filed and then make some affordable payments.
What are some things that make your firm different from other bankruptcy firms?
Some things that make my firm different is like I said earlier, a focus on customer service and just making the process really easy for clients. There’s firms I know of that make the clients gather everything themselves, make them provide everything to their case trustee themselves. We do a lot of that heavy lifting for the clients so that it’s really smooth and easy. It takes a lot of the stress off their shoulders, that’s for sure.
When someone is in need of legal assistance to find relief from creditor harassment or financial debt, what advice can you give them to hire the right attorney?
I mean, you want to find somebody that can jump in, jump in right away and, and get you filed quickly. That’s also something we’ve become very good at. Speed, sometimes filing the same day if we have to. Because as soon as you’re filed, you’re protected from those creditors and they have to stop all of those efforts. And if they don’t, you can actually go after them monetarily for that. So some opportunities there too.
